Hatch Oregon Cities Network

Welcome to the Hatch Oregon Cities Network – A New Resource for City Leaders!

Oregon’s new rules have created strong interest from community and city leaders statewide. They ask, “How can my city’s entrepreneurs and citizens benefit? How do I help folks understand how to invest? Are there tools we can use here in town, locally? The answer is yes.

We launched the Hatch Oregon Cities Network to answer those questions and provide the resources to cities in every corner of Oregon. Hatch Oregon helped drive the new law forward, and we are committed to building the ecosystem for it to flourish across the state.

To become a Hatch Oregon City you would begin planning for the following activities:

  1. Gather three or more agencies and form a Local Investing Leadership Coalition (or something similar). We have seen people invite the “buy local” organizations in town (if you have them), your local Chamber of Commerce, Business District leaders, your city or regional economic development agencies, and the Small Business Development Center adviser nearest you. The SBDC Network is a partner in this effort, and can offer assistance and communications support.
  2. Launch, and begin to host monthly InvestOR Meetups. These are being launched all over Oregon, and take advantage of the “Meetup.com” technology to communicate and engage people in your town. These are held monthly, usually have a short agenda, and are generally two hours. We have a toolkit  for you to help ordinary Oregonians learn more about local investing.
  3. Host a Launch Party in your city. These events should coincide with your InvestOR meetup, and give attendees a chance to meet real entrepreneurs offering investments. (The late 2015 Release Party Tour can be found here as an example.) These tour stops will continue to be a way for your citizens to learn about local investment opportunities and they help raise awareness. As a host you would coordinate the local site for the party, and help with local marketing and invitations. The companies currently offering investment deals will circulate throughout the state, and your city should be on the tour! We like to coordinate “legs” in a region, such as the Gorge, NE Oregon, or Southern Oregon, for example, so entrepreneurs can be efficient in their scheduling, though. We work with you on this.
